my daughter has a condtion call Arthrogryposis (stiff joints) and her therapist suggusted muscle stim, but said it might create problems in the adjectives...I need to know if this is safe and sound or not?Are muscle stims undamaging for 18 month olds?
My gosh, I wouldn't use anything like that on my little one until I spoke with some experts. You can do a prod online, but your pediatrician should be able to steer you to a specialist who can impart you some answers.
I would think regular, frequent alive and passive gamut of motion exercizes, with splinting at dark, would be the best course of action. I don't know much something like the problem, but have to wonder what muscle stim would do that PT won't. I hope you are seeing a specialist near a lot of experience next to the condition. Good luck.
I wouldnt suggest a muscle stimulator. The best thing you can do is ask the consultant to give you a copy of which exercises are the best for your daughter ...Does she hold a contractures? Make sure to do stretching, just standard lamp and gentle . Hold it for give or take a few 15 seconds hold, you can do it 10x . Do quiet range of motion, to aid with the stiffness . Ask the psychotherapist or her pediatric doctor which movements can you do. Because every joints own different motions. The best thing you can do is to be her analyst. Because if you bring her to a PT rehab clinics, she has solitary 2-3x/wk. visits. You can do Passive capacity of motion 20-30x /twice a day and do it everyday . This is better than the stimulator to treat stiffness.
